If like many couples this year, you have decided to have a beach wedding then you have probably done so for a number of reasons including the (almost) guaranteed good weather, less stress, and of course the beauty of the sea, sand, and surf as you say “I do” which each other.

One of the hardest decisions connected with any wedding of this theme, is what to wear.  This is a particular challenge for the bride as there are a number of very good beach wedding dresses now available on the market.  Choosing the best one for you can be hard so we hope you enjoy this quick guide to what to wear, and what not to wear to a beach wedding.

Choosing a beach wedding dress that suits you

As you are going to be on a beach, in what will probably be a very exotic location, you need to consider your own comfort on the day.  Wearing a traditional heavy set wedding dress really should be a non-starter.  There is nothing less flattering than a bride who looks uncomfortable and flustered on her big day.  All the factors of a beach can combine to battle against you – sea, sun, sand, surf, wind, and the heat – they will not always be your best friend!

Do not choose a mermaid style wedding dress

Despite being very popular this year, mermaid wedding dresses are not designed to work well for a beach wedding.  The shape of them and the way they incorporate that fish tail lower section can become entangled and tricky to walk in when on sand.  Although a mermaid design can be very romantic, especially with the sea in such close proximity, the impracticality far outweighs the glamour factor.

Do not choose really dark colours

If you want to be at ease and not feel the sun beating down on you then try and pick lighter colours for your beach wedding dress.  Blacks and greys will only attract the Sun’s rays and make for a very uncomfortable bride.  If you want some colour in there, go perhaps for floral patterns that make a summertime statement.

Styles of beach wedding dresses

Sarongs that wrap around the body accentuating the female form are very popular, and add a touch of the exotic to proceedings, especially if your beach is somewhere in the Far East.  Halter necks and strapless designs are recommended and more and more wedding dress designers are incorporating this style into their new collections.

And one last thing about beach wedding dresses

As this is your wedding day and the memories will last with you forever, make sure you go with whatever makes you feel comfortable.  As long as the practicalities are taken care of, the rest of the day should slip happily into place.  Good luck on your big day, and we hope you find the beach wedding dress of your dreams.
